Today's show: Sunday, May 20, 2012

There's a ton of hockey still going on - and Cassie and I talked about all of it - NHL, AHL, ECHL playoffs, Memorial Cup tournament (WHL, OHL, QMJHL), and the World Hockey championships. We also welcomed DARREN RUMBLE, Assistant Coach for the Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL), former coach of the Norfolk Admirals (AHL), longtime NHL player who won the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004.

Darren talked about coaching, playing, playing for John Tortorella and raising hockey playing sons. He also talked about his son Chris, who filmed a documentary about playing for the Wenatchee Wild (NAHL). That documentary, called Into the Ice, is very well done and showcases Chris' filmmaking skills. But it's a music video that put Chris on the map. While undergoing treatment for leukemia at Seattle Childrens' Hospital, Chris produced a music video featuring young patients singing and dancing to Kelly Clarkson's song "Stronger." That video has been seen more than 2 million times and sparked a heartfelt response from Kelly herself.
Tune in to the podcast to hear what Darren has to say about Chris and his video, his prognosis and hopes for playing hockey at Canisius College, Darren's memories of playing for Torts, coaching in the Q, AHL and WHL - and what he's most looking forward to seeing from the T-Birds this season.
